Another year closer to the sun

Time passes and our faces begin to melt. In new real order besides disorder.

-Going crazy in a van, driving way to much in too short of a period of time, DC, Vermont, hiking through a forest buried in snow, snow, the excitement of a friends new life, SNOW, coming back to Cali and going to Disneyland for a week all the time sporting shorts.

-Going to school for like 20 hours and making 2000 dollars

-Exploring almost every inch of this fucking town but somehow there is something new to be found almost everyday that I go and look for it. I found a bunker the other day in my old backyard the other day.

-Figuring out how that I can be a bum forever and still be able to accomplish everything that I want to do in my life.

-Having many many conversations with Preston that belong to another dimension.

-Walking across Spain for a month, 550 miles in 30 days. This can never really be explained for it must just be done.

-Meeting and living with an awesome family for a month in Spain. Any one who thinks that everyone just burns out when they get old is silly, these people do more than anyone I have ever met. Also donkeys are pretty great as well.

-Spending 2 weeks in Zurich with Brigham and Anina. I don't think that I have ever had that much fun or gotten into more awkward situations then I did those 2 weeks. Bike rides, Coffee, eating on the roof all the time, swimming in the river, the craziest storm I have ever taken part in, the alps, a huge squat in a factory, photo booths, the rain, playgrounds, creepy old men, and countless hours wondering around in the rain.

-Albania and Bulgaria so good, Cheap everything, awesome people, cool places, living on the best beach I have ever been to, Brigham and Anina, The forest, Marta, burning Soviet propaganda, drinking from mountain springs, hitch hiking, and everything else you could ever dream of.

-Finding Korca our puppy. Someone left her to die in a hole now she sleeps on the bed and loves her life. Also she looks like a wolf!

-Coming home and having a new perspective about lots of things and realizing how awesome the people I love are.

-Visiting my first real cave and realizing what the inside of my head looks like.

I have missed a lot of things I am sure mostly because I can't remember them, often though those are the best things.

Yo, thought id post this shit on here because i know some distant, recent and old friends will be reading and year end lists are all the rage.

12: The most recent True Widow album. People have been describing it as "slowcore" which makes me wanna puke, anyhow beautifully crafted album sounds alot like low and earth combined into one band but sludge it up a bit. Listened to this shit on the regular and i suggest it to everyone regardless of your taste.

11: BIG MAC. Down as fuck kid man, "Big Mac needs to skate, Big Mac needs to free his soul" thats all i need to say. Oh, and he has a brutal 2007 tattoo on his leg. 16 and living the teen dream!!!!!!DGAF!!!

10: Pizza. Not the food but Matt Hand's cute little Pomeranian. Hes a little chiller and loves to wear sweaters and hang out of the sun roof in sarahs car if you want photo proof hit me up!!!!

9: Horrid Red. Awesome band, bunker wolf is the shit. Luckily enough to see them live in 2011. Who cares about "post punk" really but these guys have it going on. Make sure to check out their other stuff like FWY! and Teenage Panzerkorps. For fans of proto-punk, kraut boogie wierdness, new wave or whatever with awesome german vocals.

8: My Otter ancle boots. Jacob stole these for me and they are the best shoes anyone could ever have. They are made from fucking OTTERS how awful is that!!!!????!!!

7: Walgreens "Big Flats" beer. 3 bucks and better than trader joes. Perfect crutch.

6: Mabel Mae. Best cat ever, cuter than any of your stupid cats and way more cuddly. The female version of Boris (R.I.P)

I know that it seemed like that first one was mine, but it sure wasn't (I don't give a fuck about motorcycles). I wasn't planning on doing one of these, but I didn't want people to think that one of the best things that happened to me this year was knowing more about music than someone I'm sleeping with. By the way, this is from Willie.

10. Street Eaters, Dunguneers, and Tinsel Teeth in some house in Worcester (pronounced Woo-Ster), Massachusets. Killer bands, friends from Cali, folks making out on the dancefloor in the basement during an impromptu Smashing Pumpkins cover. West coast dominates New England. I got pulled over for speeding on the way home, but the cop let me off with a warning because I had Dirt Fort written on my knuckles.

9. Talking about jobs is stupid, but I got a sick job helping families pay for child care. Interviewing stressed out people about the fucked up shit in their lives is insane.

8. RVIVR, If not I than who then, Shea Witzo, and Rat King (not sure if anyone else played) in a barn out in the middle of nowhere in Vermont. Real, real, real good. Best set I've seen RVIVR play. West coast dominates New England again.

7. Meeting seriously rad folks; they remind me of all y'all in all the best ways, but considerably less self-destructive. In addition, meeting a really nice lady and spending a lot of time with her for a month or so before she moved away.

6. Moving out of Bonetown and into a house of accepting and nice-as-hell folks. Shit got a little messy at Jon Stamos for a while, but things are really settling in and feeling good (and we'll probably try to change the name soon).

5. Getting to show California friends around a crazy town like Brattleboro, especially watching the Strolling of the Heifers parade with Lawrence and Cecilia.

4. Playing in stupid and rad bands with roommates and friends, including: CCRR (Creedence Clearwater Revival Revival, playing messy covers of CCR songs, Ke$ha cover set on Halloween, Justin Beiber cover on his birthday, dramatic retelling of the Battle of Bennington, and more.

3. Finally growing the fuck up, and learning an instrument. I got a cheap banjo and play it all the fucking time. I try to play along with middle-aged men at an old time jam, and they let me take fucked up sounding solos sumetimes!

2. The Ski Jump!

1. Summertime in Vermont is an absolute dream! It makes all the shit that wasn't/isn't so great worth it. I can ride my bike to a swimming hole on my lunch break. If you have a car there's a few dozen amazing swimming holes within a short drive. Big Falls is amazing, but being able to just go for a swim anytime, day or night, is just amazing. There's also awesome ice cream everywhere, and everyone is in a great mood after the long, hard winter.

I'm sure I forgot some really amazing stuff, but who cares. If you want to know what's awesome about Vermont, then it only makes sense to visit.

7. FRIENDS are moving up here! barely met anyone here so far but am glad to have them making their way to this cold massive small gray place.
8. writing alot and not getting any better!
9. drinking more, and smoking cigars and weed, and doing more benadryl than ever before.
10. the way this place makes me feel and the way it smells and how easy it is to not have to be around anyone ever if desired.

all in all moving and making some slight changes and starting to read and taking care of myself worse than ever, being in a real good, not healthy in the beginning but getting and staying great relationship, and my mom finally getting her own apt. are the best things that have happened this year!

Assuming nothing life changing happens in the next few days heres my top ten.
I had a really fucking awesome year, hard to pick just ten but..
1) Moving to Vermont, getting CA out of my psyche
2) Bonetown (my house) and having amazing friendships with my roommates (and a few others) that are real close and easy and nice, living with kittens (Achoo!), having a gold room, an awesome house and garden and location (Brattleboro!)
3) Tons of new friends- Brattleboro all-stars and a seemingly non-stop flow of cool out-of-towners who continuously break my heart by leaving - but then give me a great excuse to travel all over and see them (and sometimes I just follow them out of town)
4) Trips galore - Maine x2, DC x2, Maryland, PA, North Carolina, NY, CA, Ct, Mass, All over VT, by train, bus, plane, thumb, for shows, friends or just to get out of town for a hot minute
555) Growing up (some), being better at communication, being more comfortable being myself (and being naked all the time) being louder, being a little more sober, being happier
666) Books!!!! I read over 40 this year. Favorites include: The Invisibles, The Illuminati Trilogy, Lolita, The Ethical Slut, The Man Who Fell In Love With the Moon, Hunger Games Trilogy, Doris Anthology and more
7) Music!!!! Too much to say.. playing in a band, seeing awesome shows, finally knowing the name of bands that have been on the peripheral of my knowledge since Buchon days, talking about music and feeling like I know what I'm talking about for once (even getting to be the snob in a relationship with the bigger music collection who goes 'you mean you never heard of ...???!?')
8) SUMMERTIME- swimming 4x a day, eating pizza and ice cream, not putting clothes on ever, sleeping outside, bonfires and so much more.
9) New interests: motorcycle repair, farming, stencils, herbs, beads, crossword puzzles, hiking, potlucks, tattoos!
10) The future - It is real up in the air right now whether I am coming back to the West Coast for awhile.... I will keep you all posted. Any input or advice is appreciated. I'm thinking about moving to Phoenix to attend the Motorcycle Maintenance Institute cus I want to learn a trade but I also don't want to leave VT cus it rules.

I lost my jacket last night. it's an XL black colombia jacket. it's water proof and breathable (I believe there is an "omnitech" logo on the left sleeve). the inner layer is fleece and the outside is like standard black noisy waterproof material. zipper up the middle.

We moved in like three or four weeks ago, and I was planning on putting up photos as soon as we got here, but I've just been really lazy about it. Between having to come to the library to use the internet and spending tons of time looking for job opportunities, I was totally sick of being on the computer. But I have some photos of the inside and outside of the house, and I thought y'all like to see how we're living it up in the One and Only Brattleboro.

This is completely self-explanatory. There's space invader tilework and beer brewing equipment in our downstairs shower. Duh.

This is Jean and my room. Jean painted the walls gold and I rasterbated Frankie Teardrop in magenta and put her up on the wall. We have a pretty janky stereo set up, but it plays records well enough.

This might be a little confusing. The closed white door is the door into our bedroom, but we also have the front bedroom which is kind of like a dressing room or an office or something. We basically have two bedrooms, it's tight. Then there's a hallway (with the wood floors) and the bathroom on the left.

Here's the front of the house. We don't use the front door yet, but we might in the future. We're thinking of getting a dart board for this hallway.

This isn't our house, but this is our neighborhood. It's quiet and most of the houses are enormous. I guess we inadvertently moved into the nicest neighborhood in Brattleboro.

This is a photo of the town and the shortcut we take through the snow to get to town.

Here's the kitchen, you can't tell, but the cabinets are all that gross salmon color, with tons of paint chipping off. I like it.

Here's our dining/living room. Eventually someone will probably be living behind the double doors, but not yet. We have very little furniture so far, as you can tell.

Here's our side porch and our collection of icicles. Sometimes, once the snow gets really heavy on the roof, it all slides off at once and shake the whole house. It's pretty amazing, but scary to wake up to. It feels a lot like an earthquake.

Here's the front of our house, with our satellite dish. It snowed like two feet in the last weeks, so there's no path up to the front of the house anymore. That's why they stopped delivering our mail, but we're going to get a shovel soon and start getting them to deliver stuff again.

This is a photo taken the night Stephanie broke her back jumping off the parking structure into a big pile of snow. It was crazy, we all did it a bunch of times, and then on her fourth time, she fucked up her back and they told her it was busted when we went to the hospital the next day. Send her "get well soon" cards!

Mustache vs. Drops

I picked up a Peugeot with drops, and I am not really digging the drops with stop and go city traffic of downtown Portland. I spend more time worrying about getting my hands from the hood to brakes before a car suddenly stops or a pedestrian jumps in front of me than paying attention to where I am and other important things.

Does anybody have an opinion on mustache bars? Can I use the same brake levers? Or should I just get cross levers to put on the top of the existing bar instead?

Any none smarmy comments will be appreciated. I want to feel safer.

How's everything going in SLO?

I just wanted to let everyone know really quick that I bought a plane ticket to Vermont December 1st. I will probably stay away from California for as long as I can once I'm over there, so it might not be a while until I see you all. Of course, you are all welcome and encouraged to come and visit us (Jean, Ivy, me) in Vermont. Unfortunately, I will still be working almost up until my last day in Valencia, and I'll be hella busy these next 5 weeks getting ready to move, so I won't have any time to make a trip up to SLO. Also, I've been living at my folks, otherwise I'd invite everyone to come down and party and stay up late and crash at my house, but if any of you happen to be passing through this part of the state, or somewhere near it, get in contact and probably we will chill hard.

Hello Nerf Herders,

First off super great trainee party everyone. We do however have some
items MIA. I have a striped purse sitting in my room. Name the bands
on the pins and I can return it to you right quick.

As far as missing items go we're looking for an iPod, an older digital
camera, and my manual razor.

Lastly, and this one is super important, a purse was definitely
stolen. This is not the above mentioned purse. Naturally it was taken
from the basement sometime between midnight and 1:00. If you saw any
sketchy guys holding a purse (aside from Ross) that is probably our
culprit.

Portland is awesome! Thanks for everyone who came to the show/dance party or sent me a kind message.

The rules for visiting me: WHATEVER GOES. This place does not care about visitors as long as you don't make a ruckus or stay here for more than ten days in a row. Top Five Things I Miss Already:
1) My dogs. They are better than all people. I rasterbated a 121-page mural of them on an entire wall so I see them whenever I'm in my room.
2) My family. The obligated "first people" on this list. I really miss my family (not as much as my dogs, but a very large frowny face to both) :(
3) Chelsea. GWAAAHHHHHHH SO MUSHY

5) The people at my work. I miss being paid to be a goof with rad dudes/dudettes.

Top Five Food Carts:
1) Aybla Grill - Amazing falafel sandwiches with dark leafy greens (no iceburg!), tomatoes, perfectly spiced baba ghanoush and tzatziki. Perfectly made. Heaven in a wrap.
2) Sonny Bowls - Essentially buchon mush. Black beans, quinoa, sauteed veggies, salsa, cilantro-lime sauce, and nooch for $4. They have a hot sauce bar (with tapatio, sriracha, AND Melinda's!!!) for free. HOT DAMN.
3) This Thai/Vietnamese cart next to the DC Veg cart - they have eggplant stirfry... mouths will water when you just smell it.
4) Any pizza cart. Because the fact that pizza carts exist RULE.
5) Vietnamese sandwich carts. Better than the place in Paso. NUMMY

Sadly, both burrito carts I went to were awful. Here's to hoping I find the perfect burrito :(

Top Five Things I Like About Portland:
1) I feel AT LEAST 10x more hip living here than I did in SLO
2) I'm able to fully explore interests I've had for years but could never really do (namely see first rate orchestral music, play role-playing games with strangers, and see weirdo cinema)
3) It's the fun of San Francisco with the weather of Los Osos.
4) The school here is actually pretty awesome if you like learning things. I'm a nerd for education :D
5) Kombucha on tap. Almost everywhere I go, I see kombucha on a tap. There's this cafe next to a Whole Foods that had a $2 pints night of kombucha, I got SO MUCH. They had a berry blast one, and a white rose one, and I chugged my heart out.

Last Vacation Photos

Obviously, these will be the last few pictures from our trip across the country. If you hadn't noticed, Jean and I have been in SLO for the past week. Ask us about our trip if you are interested in hearing stories about a summer much more fun than yours!

This is Jean and a cat sleeping at Allison's place in Chicago. I'm not sure why, but at this point in the trip I couldn't sleep past 6 or 7 in the morning; Jean wasn't having the same problems.

This is Kip, you might remember him from pictures of Annie's place in Vermont. It's true, we just happened to meet up with them in Chicago, we didn't give them a ride. He's really cool and really quiet, but he smiles a lot and Annie's marrying him! Here, he's bleeding a lot, it was gross.

Lake Michigan is nice to swim in all over. Earlier we swam in it off the coast of Northern Michigan, but this is right near downtown Chicago. There were dead birds floating around.

You can't tell all that well, but there's a thunderstorm happening while I'm swimming in this black water. It was at the end of a treacherous hike through a forest with roaming clouds of mosquitoes. Definitely the most epic swim of the trip. Fuck You Wisconsin!

Surprisingly, we didn't dumpster all that much on the trip, but we made sure to do it at the most scenic spots.

Rock climbing in Colorado Springs! I don't care what you say, it was a million times harder than it looks.

Road Food! Here is a cheese, hummus, avocado, and chip sandwich.

Jean is celebrating our triumphant return to Highland Park with Ryan Knapp with some delicious Blue Raspberry Bling Mad Dog 20/20.

Tommy some things you can start to scavenger for doing tile are a 5 gallon bucket, large orange sponge, grout float (maybe make this), spacers, thin set trowel, tile rubbing stone, and a straight edge. We can wing anything else.

The straight edge should be metal (not wood), and ideally 4-8 feet long. Actual straight edges for tile are expensive so be creative. It's got to be able to with stand pressing it against a freshly laid row and hammering it to get the whole row flush. Bucket and sponge probably find for free. The trowels and stone you can probably get beat up ones for almost nothing from an installer. Try craigslist or posting a note or two at local shops. Most tile shops have a bulletin board for for installers to post cards for customers to see. If any new houses being built, spacers, buckets, and sponges are easy to steal and often left out.

These are the photos from the camera that Jean brought on the trip. Right now, were in Santa Clarita, eating the food at my parent place and swimming in Danny's pool, before heading back to SLO in a few days.

This is Chicago, we ust happened to be there at the same time as Ivy and
some friends of hers. We rode around and went swimming in
Lake Michigan a bunch. There was an air show going on with fighter jets and shit.

This is also Lake Michigan, but a few days earlier and a
few hundred miles Northeast. If you look closely, I'm making
the hella epic frisbee catch in the background. BRUTAL!

Four-Way Teeter Toter! This was one of the funnest
stops on a six-pack tour ever. Balancing and shit,
and then a game we're bringing to SLO called Beam Wars.

This is some dude's parents' swimming pool in Farmington.
I tried to convince them to yell Oi! as we all cannonballed
together, but they weren't interested. LAME!

We'll be back in SLO in no time!
We're repping LA for a bit first, but we can't wait to see you all!

Third Roll of Travel Photos

Right now we're hanging out at my friend Chris Woolfolk's place in Colorado Springs, CO. After I posted those last pics, we spent almost a week in Northern Michigan, and since then have been on a marathon trip through Southwest Michigan, Indiana, Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, The Badlands, Nebraska, Wyoming, and finally to Colorado. There was very little sleep in these last few days. The cats at Allison's apartment kept me awake. Once we got here, I fell asleep for eleven hours, and I've been feeling great ever since. We rock climbed earlier today (pics from that adventure later). The pics from this roll are mostly our last days in Detroit and Farmington, then the time that we spent in Northport with Jean's family. They are all much stranger than these pictures make them seem.

Detroit is fucking gnarly, in case you didn't know. Yes, this building is hella boarded up, and yes, there definitely were people living there. This was down the street from Ashley's house, where we stayed our last night in town.

We left William at the Burger King so he could get some nutritous breakfast before taking the two-day Greyhound trip back to LA.

There's tons of dead animal parts in Jean's parents' house.

There's a model airplane with a toy lady in it hanging from this deer head's antlers.

There were also squirrels in action poses; this one seems fairly calm.

This is up in Northport with Jean's aunt, MB. Jean and her family spent a long time carving a phone out of a watermelon, a squash, and a orange. They laughed and laughed and laughed.

Jean's brother, Sam, also had to make a few calls.

Jean is showing her mom, Heather, a dead bug, while her mom text messages.

The wild-looking guy is Jean's cousin Al. We played a brutal game of footdown in the basement of their house. Al won the majority of the games.

No one is quite sure what is happening in this picture.

We're probably leaving for California tomorrow. The drive will take more than a day, then we're going to Oakland, Santa Cruz, Santa Clarita, and finally back home to SLO. SEE YOU SOON!

I am going on a two week excursion through our great nation's Southwest region. Driving in a van from point to point and then backpacking for a day or two at each point. Arrangements have been made to stay at several houses to allow opportunity to shower, eat fully cooked meals, sleep indoors, and have sexual intercourse.

Some of the glorious places of interest include Joshua Tree, Red Rocks, Grand Canyon, and Zion.

You are all invited to join if you have ample time, a proper back pack, and a little bit of gas money to pitch in. If you want to go and don't have these things, maybe arrangements can be accommodated.

Looking to leave LA around the 21st of this month and arriving back after the first few days of September.

We're in Jean's hometown of Farmington now. It's a suburb outside of Detroit, well known for being the hometown of ICP. Surprisingly we haven't seen very many Juggalos; I think I see more in Atascadero when I'm on the bus. Her parents also live less than a block from the famed 8 Mile Road. There's much history in this neighborhood. Most of these pictures are from Vermont though. The town that Ivy lives in is called Wells. Tomorrow we're dropping William off at the bus station in Detroit and Jean and I are continuing to northern Michigan to chill at her family's house in a town called Northport for a week. Soon after that we'll be in Chicago, then Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

This is on Ivy's property, this is a fire pit that she built.

Ivy's family own a small dock on a small lake a short walk from their house. They had a two-person kayak, a one-person kayak, and a big canoe. The lake is infested with some crazy plant whose name I forget, and then there's also an herbicide that get's dumped in the water to get rid of the plant. We still swam all over, duh.

This is Ivy, William, and Parker in the canoe.

There was a place to park the boats and climb up to the road to jump into the water. We saw some little kid do some pretty awesome flips, but we were all too scared. This is Ivy's friend Kip, Parker, Jean, and Ivy all jumping together.

I found this in the little cemetery in Wells while on a bike ride. I don't understand why the angel has liberty spikes.

Jean gave me a sick tattoo our last night in Vermont. It the sun, wearing shades, with its mouth wide open and a splash like a cannonball coming out of it. I gave her one of the sun, wearing shades, barfing out a brutal waterfall. Both tattoos have hidden 666's.

Ivy got "ROT" in her armpit. She said it hurt pretty bad. She was also really high.

This is William asleep in the back of the van. I think he was stoked after we dropped Parker off because he finally got to stretch out.

This is at a carnival we went to in Farmington, surprisingly there were no Juggalos there.

It was a pretty exciting carnival.

I don't know how to explain this. They put kids in the balls, and fill the balls up with air?

We eat tons of baklava in Farmington. It's tight.

SEPTEMBER 19th - A PARTY

There will be a Rock n Roll High School Sadie Hawkins dance. Think of it as being another 'Buchon Prom' or 'Winter Formal.' There will be a 50's/60's rock music dance, spiked punch, and cool cats. I will provide four different things of pomade for hair styling, and tons of combs. Since it's a Sadie Hawkins, whoever is wearing a dress to the dance gets to ask people to be their date. You ain't gonna wear a dress, you can't ask people for dates.

Also, I think Neato-Bandito and Rainbow Person will be doing live sets. Maybe ghostporn too. I dunno. After this night I'm leaving for sweet ole Oregon, land of second rate Californians. It'll be a blast, and it'd be fun if people came.

This is Jean's cat Mani that lives at the Worm Hole, which is where we stayed most nights.

This is at one of the most beautiful places I've ever swam, some sketchy quarry near Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. For those history buffs out there, Harper's Ferry is where John Brown robbed a National Guard Armory and tried to end slavery himself. Him and his crew killed some slaveholders and shit.

I took this picture from the highest jumping spot at the quarry; some of the kids that are swimming in the picture told us it was 50 feet high. It was easily one of the scariest things I've ever jumped off of.

The kids in DC called this spot the Crystal Fountain. It was really cool until we got out and were covered in what might have been leeches. There were also eels in the next pond over.

So what the fuck is going on with that back house? Who lives there? Is it all legit or are you squatting it? Did anyone find any stash of weird stuff in the walls or something?

i'm sure you probably won't see this but it's worth a try. looking for a raver that was at break free on saturday. you gave me a lightshow, the most amazing one that night. it was pretty dark so i didn't get a good look at your whole face and your light show was memorizing. but you were the most beautiful thing i've ever seen especially those eyes of yours. you told me your name was jeff but that's all i know about you. besides that you just started giving light shows when i commented on how amazing you are at what you do. i was just so awestruck, i was speechless. i don't think i saw you the rest of the night but i'd really like to see you again and get to know you. hopefully i'll see you at the next one, maybe?
