Mustache vs. Drops

I picked up a Peugeot with drops, and I am not really digging the drops with stop and go city traffic of downtown Portland. I spend more time worrying about getting my hands from the hood to brakes before a car suddenly stops or a pedestrian jumps in front of me than paying attention to where I am and other important things.

Does anybody have an opinion on mustache bars? Can I use the same brake levers? Or should I just get cross levers to put on the top of the existing bar instead?

Any none smarmy comments will be appreciated. I want to feel safer.

Mustache bars can be nice, its all a matter of preference. If you do get mustache you shopuld be able to use your old brakes but if you like your drops then definitely you always have the option of upgrading your brakes to something easier to access

I have never used mustache bars before but they seem like they may be ok but you might find some of the problems that you are having with drops. I would try risers, maybe a higher pair than normal. I have them on one bike and I love them. You would have to get new levers and cables but thats maybe luike 10-15 bucks or less at a co-op. If you want you can get a pair of cruiser kind of bars but those aren't the best for riding in traffic, but you would also need new levers.
